Commentary by Susan Harmon
Currently, the hurricane center projects that Chantal, the 3rd named storm in 2013, will fade to a tropical depression somewhere between Cuba and the Bahamas by Friday. DYK: Chantal was the 3rd named storm in 1989 as well!!
All of Florida remains in the cone, but Chantal weakened overnight. Chantal is heading for Haiti. Be safe our deep southern neighbors.
Chantal is still projected to be about 200 miles east of Miami on Friday, but whether it will survive as a tropical storm is unknown. But with Chantal’s spaghetti track moving slightly westward, Florida’s entire peninsula is in the cone of error.
Under the latest schizophrenia forecast (weak over land, gaining strength over water, weak over land, gaining strength over water), the system would parallel the state’s coastline close enough to produce gusty winds and rough surf from Miami to Jacksonville. The surfers will love that.
