Commentary by Lee Gill Cohen
From January 10-11, 2014, Lee Gill Cohen traveled out west to a hotel in Weston to join his fellow Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Advisory Council members, as well as staff and volunteers from around the State of Florida, for the 2014 MADD Florida Staff and Volunteer Training Retreat. Most people do not know that Weston is actually the home of MADD’s state office in Florida. A total of 48 attendees met to discuss efforts to curb impaired driving and the effectiveness of MADD at the local and national levels. The featured speaker was Vicki Knox, MADD National’s Chief Operating Officer, who had an open discussion of how MADD has changed from its grass roots origins in 1980 and its goals for the decades to come. If you want to get involved in MADD, email the state office at fl.state@madd.org. Also, mark your calendar for the Walk Like MADD and MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale on May 14, 2014 at Huizenga Park.
